Welcome 2023!

As we began the New Year, students learned about the "powerful" emotions such as pride, bravery and confidence. We used what we learned to set a vision and learn all about goal setting and how to set a SMART goal (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely). It is so important for students to realize that when they have a setback on a goal, that it isn't "I failed" or "something is wrong with me," but rather adopt a growth mindset and re-adjust their goal to keep going and moving forward. Talking with your children about your goals and what you are doing to achieve them, your setbacks and how you are moving forward will help them learn by example. This is a wonderful supplement from PBS Kids on helping children set and achieve goals.

As we move forward, we will be learning all about emotion regulation and how to shrink those harder emotions and cope with them in healthy ways. Ask your students to teach you about the STOP skill that they recently learned. More information about the STOP skill and helping your children use it can be found here.
